Mike Morgan

outdoor

Butler County, Pennsylvania

Mike Morgan has a tendency to view immovable objects as not so immovable. That may have something to do with the decades he spent working in drilling and blasting. He started in the strip mines of Central Pennsylvania before moving to oil & gas, then heavy highway construction. All those years of battling against rock led to countless equipment failures, and like most people who’ve worked themselves into trouble, Mike often turned to YouTube for repair guidance. He turned to that help more and more frequently as time passed until finally, as with so many other things, he decided to take a crack at making videos himself. In 2017 Mike launched Outdoors with the Morgans, posted a single video, then forgot about it while juggling family responsibilities and his other business ventures. When the time came to post a second video, he discovered enough of an audience to fuel the fire and it’s been like clockwork since. His weekly videos, now seen by 100,000 strong, demonstrate how much can be built - and moved - with enough willpower and the right tools. He’s got plenty on his plate with properties in Pennsylvania and West Virginia, a number of successful businesses, and four grown children with his wife, Melissa. Mike and his family are incredible ambassadors for Western PA and the humble and hardworking people common to the area. The Morgans fit perfectly on team DiamondBack.

If we unlocked your DiamondBack and checked out your gear, what would we find?

Especially when I’m heading to the cabin, it’s mostly tools for working around the property. Chain saws and that sort of thing.

What process do you use when taking on a new project?

I’m not big on written plans. I like to walk through each step of the project in my head, again and again, until I’m confident in what I’m doing.

Where’s your favorite piece of land on earth?

Our Cabin property in Preston County, WV. Beautiful, quiet, and wildlife everywhere.

What’s the worst experience you’ve had outdoors? Has it changed how you’ve done things since?

We went tent camping in Yellowstone and were unprepared. A thunderstorm hit, then sleet, then hail. By morning, our camp was covered by 4” of snow. We learned the importance of bringing the right gear.
